The First Session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) began in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Monday afternoon.
The suggestions and comments the members bring forward focus primarily on the people's concerns.
Zhu Jianmin, Manager of Liaoning Aoke Chemical Corporation and also an advocate for the people with physical disabilities, proposed seven suggestions. Among them, he recommended that the scientific outlook on development introduced by the 17th Party Congress guide the enterprises to place the utmost priority on their employees. He also highlighted the vulnerable, marginal and weak social groups and suggested bringing them under the aegis of the Social Security umbrella.
Li Xiaolin, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, mentioned that her political suggestions would focus on how to gain greater access to economic achievements for ordinary Chinese citizens and how to enhance the government's ruling ability. She underscored the fact that political advisors are obligated to notify the public regarding government performance and the people's concerns.
The members of CPPCC come from all walks of life, including China's main business, religious and other noncommunist groups. The session will run through March 14.
Hot topics during this session include: macroeconomic controls, consumer price stability, government restructuring, employment rate, environmental protection, and reform of the financial, educational and health care systems.
