China received more than US$200 million of donations from other
countries and international organizations in 2005, Vice Minister of
Commerce Yi Xiaozhun said in Beijing Thursday.
Yi made the remark at the 6th donator coordination conference
sponsored by the Ministry
of Commerce, noting the assistance covers poverty relief,
environmental protection, AIDS/HIV prevention and treatment,
administrative reform, energy, and education.
Some donations have helped provide valuable technological
support, bring about advanced concepts, and train people with
specific expertise, Yi said.
The donations and aid have not only boosted China's social and
economic development, but also promoted the understanding,
friendship and exchanges between China and other countries, he
said.
Although China has made remarkable achievements, it is still a
developing country with a per capita income ranking below the 100th
in the world, he said.
China still needs to receive more international support and aid,
so as to resolve the problems of poverty, unbalanced regional
development and environmental pollution, he said.
