A burst river bank was fixed at 5:10 p.m. after two days of efforts in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, local authorities said Monday.

After failure Sunday night when the breach reopened, workers started again early Monday to repair the bank of the Luofu River, a tributary of the Weihe River in Huayin City, Shaanxi.

Large stones and sand in bags were finally used to make a higher and wider bank, said Dang Decai, secretary of the municipal committee of the Communist Party of China.

About 10,000 people in total were evacuated from Huayin City.

The bank burst at 6:30 a.m. Saturday with a breach 80 meters wide.

No casualties had been reported, Dang said.

In Shaanxi's Baoji City, the railway service of the Lianyungang-Lanzhou Railway was resumed early Monday, said an official of Xi'an Railway Bureau.

Local railway authorities closed one railway line of the Lianyungang-Lanzhou Railway, which runs across the Qianhe Bridge above the Qianhe River, after a support pillar of the bridge was moved by the torrent.

Torrential rains pounded Shaanxi from Thursday to Sunday but the weather improved early Monday, according to the provincial observatory.

Temperatures in Shaanxi would rise in the next three days, said an official with the observatory.

As of Sunday, floods and other rain-triggered disasters in the past 11 days had left at least 111 dead and 167 missing in Shaanxi.
