Heavy rain and flooding in southern China is continuing to affect train services in Shanghai.

Three services have been canceled today. They are the K197, K163 and 2001 services to Fujian Province.

Yesterday, hundreds of passengers were stranded at Shanghai South Railway Station, the major terminal to southern China, after four trains were canceled.

Long-distance bus services also suffered delays and cancellations.

"I was stuck here," said Zhang Hua, a passenger who had come to Shanghai to visit the World Expo. Zhang, from Fujian Province, spent the whole day yesterday in the station's waiting room.

Rail officials said the situation was getting better compared to the weekend when more than 11 trains were canceled.

About eight long-distance bus services, mainly to Fujian and Jiangxi provinces, also suffered cancellation.

Rail officials said they would be adding extra trains to Nanning in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, an area severely affected by flooding, from July 2 to early August as the track situation improved.

Landslides caused by the rain had put the rail line at risk, officials said.

Meanwhile, advance ticket sales have been temporarily suspended until a new timetable is issued next week after the opening of the Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity Rail Line.
