Rare crested ibis returns to Zhejiang
Adjust font size:

The crested ibis, one of the most endangered species in the world, has been spotted in Zhejiang Province after a fifty year absence. This rare bird has settled in the Xiazhu Lake area, the biggest wetland on the southern Yangtze River, on April 16, 2008.

Experts from China Protection of Endangered Propagation Gene Center said that they have introduced five couples of crested ibis from Shanxi Province for research and artificial insemination. The birds will be returned to nature at the first opportunity.
