The Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has resumed operations as of 2 pm on Sunday, following a temporary shutdown this morning.

Over 10,000 passengers were stranded at the airport on Sunday morning due to dense fog in the capital city of southwestern China's Sichuan Province.

The airport issued a red alert, its highest warning, at 9 am this morning, as the city saw the heaviest fog so far this year.

As a result, over 130 outbound flights were delayed, and at least 2 flights have already been cancelled.

In response, the Chengdu Shuangliu Airport will extend its operation hours on Sunday to minimize the impact of the extreme weather.
