World Meteorological Day (WMD) has been celebrated around the world on 23 March every year since the first World Meteorological Day in 1961. The Day commemorates the entry-into-force, on 23 March 1950, of the Convention of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

In 2011,?the 51st World Meteorological Day's theme is Climate for You.

It's an appropriate theme at a time when communities around the globe are striving to achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, in particular concerning health, food and water security and poverty alleviation, as well as to improve their resilience in the face of recurrent natural disasters and the impacts of climate change.

China is one of the signatory countries of the Convention of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and it's also one of the founding countries of WMO. China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and Beijing meteorological observing station?was open to the public on March 20, 2011.?
