Heavy snowfalls are expected through Sunday in a wide range of areas in Japan, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency Saturday.

The agency forecast heavy snow in the coastal areas of the Sea of Japan. Snowfalls are also expected on the plains facing the Pacific Ocean.

The agency warned people of blizzards, snow accumulation, high waves and road ice that might affect transportation systems.
