An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted Damxung County in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region at 4:39 p.m. Beijing Time Tuesday.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 29.8 degrees north latitude and 90.4 degrees east longitude, the China Earthquake Networks Center said.

The quake's epicenter was in Gedar Township, about 70 kilometers from the Tibetan capital, Lhasa.

The quake occurred at a depth of nine kilometers.

Xinhua reporters in downtown Lhasa felt the tremor and said it shook office windows.

Experts believe the quake was an aftershock of the 6.6-magnitude tremor that struck the county on Oct. 6, 2008, and left nine dead and 19 injured, said Zhang Jun, director of the earthquake forecast center in Tibet's earthquake bureau.

Yu Bo, Party chief in Damxung County, said in a telephone interview that no people or livestock died because of the quake.

He added that no houses collapsed but some now have cracks.

Yu said detailed information is still being gathered.

The operation of the Qinghai-Tibet railway, which runs through the county, was not affected, said Wang Duoji, deputy secretary of the Lhasa Railway Station branch of Communist Party of China.
