Russian authorities will spend 44 million U.S. dollars for a program of preservation of the Amur tigers, Interfax news agency reported on Tuesday.

The program in Russia has been worked out for a five-year period. Overall, the World Bank has allocated 350 million dollars for the program, its representative Andrei Kushlin said.

Until 2022, the number of Amur tigers should be doubled, according to the program.

Currently, there are only 3,200 animals of this breed on Earth and 500 of them live in Russia's Far East.

A world conference devoted to preservation of the tigers population will be held on Nov. 21-24 in St. Petersburg under the World Bank's auspices. Thirteen countries are going to participate.
