Stable policies urged for renewable energy industry

Governments should provide stable and reliable supportive policies for global renewable energy in order to maintain sustainable development, said experts participating in the on-going Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference 2010.
Rainer Hinrichs-Rahlwes, president of the European Renewable Energy Federation, said that stable and reliable supportive policy is very critical for the development of renewable energy both in the past and upcoming decade.
Hinrichs-Rahlwes also stressed that efforts also should be made to remove other barriers such as the lack of infrastructure and win public support through clear vision.
Li Junfeng, vice director general with the Energy Research Institute under the National Development and Reform Commission of China, said China, the United States and India shall learn from Germany, which maintained stable supportive policies in the past years.
Li called for the renewable energy sector to push governments and the World Trade Organization to realize tariff-free trade of renewable energy products.
Li added that the international community should work together to provide support to the research and development on renewable energy.
Now, 83 countries in the world have some incentives for renewable energy with half of the supporting policies coming up after 2005, according to Christopher Flavin, president of the Worldwatch Institute.
Flavin told Xinhua that feed-in-tariff policy proves to be effective, which is becoming a dominant supportive policy in the renewable energy.
Market-based incentives and instruments will provide a level playing field for renewable energy players, said Tulsi R. Tanti, chairman of Indian major wind turbine maker Suzlon Energy Limited.
