China's government Wednesday launched a nationwide campaign to encourage housewives to live a low-carbon life.

The campaign, organized jointly by the All-China Women's Federation, Central Commission for Guiding Ethic and Cultural Progress as well as the National Development and Reform Commission, will be held across the country.

The event suggests citizens have 15 energy-saving habits, such as saving on water, using recyclable bags for shopping, and not drinking bottled drinks.

The organizers will promote these low energy consumption concepts through various activities.

"It's very important to familiarize women with the low-carbon lifestyle, as they are the 'manager' of a family in daily lives," said a woman surnamed Zhao present at the campaign's opening ceremony.

"China has 370 million families. If every family saves a kilowatt-hour of electricity, they will reduce carbon emission by 290 million kilograms," said Song Xiuyan, vice chairperson of the All-China Women's Federation.
