John Woo's upcoming historical epic "Battle of Red Cliff" is not
going to be another environment killer, said one of the film's
producers.
Shooting of the ancient war film wrapped up on Monday at Yishui
Lake, in northern China's Hebei province, where all the sets were
burned to construct one of the film's biggest scenes.
Construction of the sets took half a year, and clearing up the
residue will be just as time-consuming, noted the unnamed producer,
who stressed that the film's crew is determined to return the
location to what it once was.
Director Chen Kaige's 2005 blockbuster film, "The Promise," was
widely criticized for the environmental damage it caused while
filming in southwestern Yunnan Province, where it left behind a
large amount of on-set waste.
In April this year, the country's top authority for radio, film
and television issued a rule banning all film and television shoots
from natural reserves, scenic areas and historical sites around the
country.
