China's Porcelain Capital Launches Large-scale Urban Construction
Jingdezhen, a porcelain capital in eastern Jiangxi province, is set to launch 36 major urban construction projects this year, to mark the 1000th founding anniversary of the world-famous town in 2004.

Jingdezhen is the prestigious porcelain production base in the country, which earned its name in the year 1004 during the reign of Emperor Jingde in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and was famed formaking porcelainware for imperial court use.

The city pledged to invest 3 billion yuan (about US$360 million) this year to build 10 leading public buildings and 10 major tourist destinations.

The 10 public buildings to be constructed include the China Porcelain Museum, the China Porcelain Center, the International Exhibition Center, the Porcelain Capital Cultural Recreation Center, the City Museum of Jingdezhen and a Sports Center, and theaters.

The 10 tourist destinations include the Museum of the Imperial Kilns Ruins, the Sculpture Park of World Renowned Figures, the Sanbao International Porcelain Art Village and the Yaoli Vacationing Village.

Jingdezhen has drawn nearly one millions domestic and overseas tourists annually since it was first listed among China's top brand cultural and historical cities in 1982.
