An Indonesia's airline operator Garuda will replace some of its old aircraft following accident in Yogyakarta province that killed 21 people, President Director of the company Emirsyah Satar said here Wednesday.

 

The president director made the statement after meeting with Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the vice presidential office.

 

The Indonesian government has ruled to limit the age of operating planes for safety. But it has not decided yet the exact term of a plane may still operate.

 

The company will replace some Boeing 737-800, the director said, adding "this year we will replace at least 3 aircraft."

 

Plane is a favorite transport mean for connecting about 17,000 island in the country with about 240 million population.

 

Low safety standard has drawn criticism to both the government and airliners.
