Railway Resumes Operation After Collision

A railway in south China's Guangdong Province on which two passenger trains collided Tuesday morning has resumed operation, said Guangzhou Railway Group.

The collision led to delay and change of routes for a couple of trains, and railway authorities have notified passengers with the accident.

More than 20 passengers and stewards were injured with no one being killed in the mishap which took place at 9:32 a.m. when the two trains collided between the stations of Linzhai and Dongshui on the rail route linking the national capital Beijing with Kowloon of Hong Kong.

The railway resumed operation at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the collision occurred when train T159 was heading for east Guangzhou from Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province while train 1017 was on its way from the city of Wuchang in central Hubei Province to Shantou in Guangdong.

The locomotive of train T159 was damaged and the last four carriages of train 1017 derailed. The injured passengers have been rushed to hospital for medical treatment, the ministry said.
