China's largest waterfall, the Huangguoshu Waterfall, is 77.8 meters high and its major body is 67 meters high, according to the latest remeasurement done by the Guizhou Provincial Land and Resources Department.
The waterfall is 101 meters wide and its major body is 83.3 meters wide at the top, according to the remeasurement.
The measurement was carried out by a team of experts with the latest measurement technologies and helped redress the previous contradicting figures, said Li Zaiwen, deputy director of the department.
The height of the waterfall has been confusing since various figures have prevailed. For example, the waterfall was said to be 68 meters high and 84 meters wide in a Guizhou tourism guide book, while it was said to be 60 meters high and 20 meters wide in an encyclopedia.
A team of scientists started the remeasurement in July with the help of GPS technology, ultra red equipment and other modern measurement technologies. The project was funded by the Guizhou Provincial Land and Resources Department.
The waterfall is located at the upper reaches of the Beipanjiang River in central Guizhou Province.
