Guangzhou Terminals Set for Holiday Travelers

Transport terminals in Guangzhou are ready for the Spring Festival travel season, which started Monday.

The Guangdong Railway Group added 19 additional trains on the first day of the Spring Festival travel season, taking the total number to 46, an increase of 48.4 percent year-on-year.

Another 25 trains will run from the Guangzhou Railway Station to cater for increasing numbers of passengers, mainly students and migrant workers.

By Monday, 400,000 tickets had been sold by phone and 215,000 tickets are still available until Jan. 29.

There were 55,000 passengers arriving and departing the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on Tuesday, an increase of 19.5 percent year-on-year.

The Baiyun Airport will open 25 security inspection lanes this year, with 20 lanes for domestic passengers and five for international travelers, 10 more than those of the old airport.

The airport also opened a complaints center Monday and opened a complaints hotline (020) 3606-6315. The airport also opened 30 line with recorded flight information and four manually operated hotlines on (020) 606-6999.

Guangzhou police had helicopters on patrol, to help maintain order during the Spring Festival travel season. Police will patrol traffic every day to curb road robberies and accidents. A total of 80 new police cars with speed detecting devices have been deployed on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway, Guangzhou-Huizhou Expressway and Kaiping-Yangjiang Expressway. Drivers breaking the speed limit of 120km/h will be prosecuted.
