Fewer, but Better, Visits to Mount Zijin

A new plan for Mount Zijin’s tourist areas and facilities was approved by Jiangsu’s Bureau of Construction on November 8.

The approved layout aims to rebuild facilities at Mount Zijin (also called Mount Zhongshan) to reflect the city’s culture and history.

Located in an eastern suburb of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, Mount Zijin hosts the country’s biggest observatory and the mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the first democratic leader of China.

The tourist area will consist of seven divisions: ecological and traveling areas, southern and northern landscapes, a viewing point over the southern city, Xuanwu Lake and the Ming Dynasty city wall.

Numbers of travelers on the mountaintop will be restricted in order to protect the environment, while facilities and resting places will also be limited.

A traffic control system will be introduced to eliminate congestion at the scenic spot, including some pedestrianization. Maximum heights, materials and colors of buildings in the vicinity will also be stipulated. Xuanwu Lake and the mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen will be connected.

Congestion at these sights has long been a headache for tourists, who often want to travel to them at the same time.
