With enterprises becoming the main force of research and development, Shenzhen, in south China?s Guangdong province, has taken the lead in the utilization of technical achievements.
Statistics from the city's science and technology bureau revealed that over 80 percent of its 294 major scientific and technical achievements in 2002 were successfully put to use, much higher than the national average.
About 73 percent were made by research institutions financed by enterprises of all kinds, and those made by domestic private enterprises accounted for 56 percent of the total.
The bureau also said that the enterprises' total outlays in research and development programs took up five percent of the city's gross domestic product.
