Chinese scientists have gathered first hand information on the development of sea ice in the Antarctic.
With home-made equipment, China's 19th scientific mission team to the South Pole recently monitored the ice near the Zhongshan Antarctic station.
The instruments measure the changes in thickness of ice every three seconds with high accuracy. This technique is currently leading the world in the field of sea ice observation.
The forming and melting of sea ice is an indicator of the changes of ocean and climate conditions.
