Chinese, British PM Vow to Cooperate in Hosting Olympic Games

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and British Prime Minister Tony Blair vowed Tuesday to cooperate in hosting Olympic Games and promote trade and economic ties.

Wen told Blair in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing that the two countries should also expand trade and two-way investment, support energy cooperation and encourage exchange in education and cultural sectors.

Beijing will host the Olympic Games in the summer of 2008 and London is selected earlier this year to be the host for the games in 2012.

"We should further promote substantial cooperation in all fields," Wen said, praising Sino-British cooperation in UN reform, anti-terrorism, substantial development, trade, investment, science and culture.

After the two PMs' talks, they presented the signing ceremony of four agreements and MOUs.

According to those documents, the China Southern Airlines will buy 10 A330 aircrafts from Airbus and the Standard & Chartered banking group will promote establishment of a new bank along with a Chinese company.

"We can also cooperate to resolve global issues such as the UN reform, Millennium Development Goals, WTO talks, poverty relief in Africa and world economy," Wen noted.

The premier suggested to strengthen political dialogue and cooperation between the two permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Blair said the multi-level dialogue between Britain and China created sound environment for promoting bilateral relations and his country will further cooperate with China in a bid to promote trade and economic ties, deepen education and culture exchange. Britain will further cooperate with China in implementing MDGs, facilitating trade, anti-terrorism and realizing sustainable development, said Blair, who arrived in Beijing on Monday.

Blair is here for a China-EU summit held Monday and it is also his third visit to China as prime minister. He is scheduled to visit India later Tuesday after China tour.
