The ongoing 56th meeting of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has appointed Chinese meteorologist Yan Hong as its vice secretary-general, the highest post held by a Chinese in the WMO, CRI.com reported Friday.
Yan Hong, the former vice director of China Meteorological Bureau, is an expert in the field of atmosphere science.
He has led long-term meteorological scientific studies and helped to bring about international exchanges with the China Meteorological Bureau.
Established in 1950, the WMO became the specialized agency of the United Nations for meteorology, operational hydrology and related geophysical sciences.
