The British government would continue to adhere to the "one-China" policy on the Taiwan issue, British Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott said in London Monday.
During talks with visiting Chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Liang Guanglie, Prescott said Liang's visit will further enhance relations between the armies of the two countries.
Relations between Britain and China have seen continuous development thanks to efforts by leaders of the two countries, Prescott said, noting that Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's recent successful visit to Britain was very significant for boosting British-Chinese relationship.
Saying he was satisfied with the cooperation between Europe and China, Prescott said he believed that Hong Kong would see a bright future under the "one country, two systems" principle.
Liang, on his part, said Sino-British relations have never been so good.
Bilateral relations would become better and better through common efforts from both sides, Liang said, adding that good relations would not only benefit the two countries, but also help promote global peace and stability.
Relations between the two armies have also been boosted in recent years, Liang said, noting that China would like to further enhance the ties to a new level through more military exchanges and strengthened cooperation.
Also on Monday, Liang met with British Defense Secretary Geoff Hoon on bilateral relations and international and regional issues.
At the invitation of British Chief of the Defense Staff Michael Walker, Liang arrived in London Sunday for a three-day official visit.
