Chinese and Kenyan leaders on Sunday exchanged congratulatory messages to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between their two countries.
In a message to his Kenyan counterpart Mwai Kibaki, Chinese President Hu Jintao said that ever since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1963, the friendly relations between China and Kenya have developed steadily, the cooperation in various fields has been promoted and the two countries have supported each other in international affairs.
Hu said that the Chinese government attaches great importance to Sino-Kenyan relations and is willing to broaden exchanges, strengthen cooperation and push forward the bilateral ties so as to benefit the two peoples.
Kibaki said in his message that Kenya and China enjoy warm and cordial relations and cultural, commercial and diplomatic exchanges have been increased.
The Kenyan leader said that the Chinese government has provided strong assistance to the Kenyan government, especially in road construction and sports facilities.
The Kenyan leader said that Kenya and China have similar positions on major international affairs and both are dedicated to neighborly friendship, peace and stability in the world. He reaffirmed that his government sticks to the one-China policy.
On the same day, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and his Kenyan counterpart Stephen Musyoka also exchanged greetings to mark the event.
