Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), met in Beijing Friday with Bharrat Jagdeo, president of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
Wu said the president's talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao Thursday opened up broader prospects for bilateral relations.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, the two countries have made unremitting efforts for the promotion of friendly cooperation in various fields, Wu said.
China appreciated and thanked Guyana for its long-term support on the Taiwan issue and other China-related issues, he said.
Wu said China's NPC was ready to strengthen cooperation with the parliament of Guyana and help push forward bilateral relations.
Wu briefed the Guyanan president on China's economic development and key economic targets. He said he hoped the president would visit more areas of China, especially its western regions, on his next visit.
Jagdeo said Guyana and China had much in common regarding international issues.
China's assistance to Guyana had strongly supported to Guyana's economic growth, he said.
The president said that he was deeply impressed by what he saw in China and that he considered China's development a contribution to world peace and development.
Jagdeo stressed Guyana would continue to abide by the one-China policy.
