Jia Qinglin, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said in Beijing Tuesday that the CPC believes mutual understanding and trust between China and Britain will be strengthened through exchanges and cooperation between the CPC and the United Kingdom Conservative Party.
Jia, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said during a meeting with Michael Ancram, deputy leader of the Conservative Party, that the CPC paid great attention to developing relations with the Conservatives.
China and Britain had good bilateral relations, and cooperation in the areas of politics, economy and trade, finance, science and technology, environmental protection and health had all borne fruit, Jia noted.
"We believe that through exchanges and cooperation between our two parties, mutual understanding and trust will be enhanced, and party and state relations will develop," Jia told Ancram.
Jia also briefed the British guests about the 16th National Congress of the CPC held in November last year in Beijing.
Ancram said he was glad to have the opportunity to exchange views on issues of mutual concern. He was deeply impressed by China's reform and opening up to the outside world and its broad prospects of development.
Ancram said the Conservative Party and people from throughout British society were keen to develop friendly cooperation with China.
He said his party would try its best to help advance UK-China relations.
