World renowned director Oliver Stone announced in Beijing on Saturday that he is planning to make a new film with a local film studio in China.
Oliver said these words in the headquarters of the Century Hero Film & Investment Co. Ltd. during a meeting with the general manager of the company at the weekend. Century Hero is Stone's first Chinese collaborator. Han Sanping, Century's general manager, discussed details with him at the weekend.
A Chinese novel about Chinese love, life and spirit attracted Oliver Stone's attention and is the story on which the film is based.
Although the script hasn't been finalized, Stone said he has already decided on the locations of some of the scenes. Part of them will be taken at the Dunhuang Caves in China's Gansu Province. He loves the gorgeous caves that date back to AD 36 and contain many Buddhist statues, frescoes and valuable manuscripts.
Han Sanping showed interest in Oliver Stone's plan, but said he'd like to see the script first before he makes any decision.
"If the story is appropriate for a Chinese audience, Century Hero will surely invest a lot in it," Han said.
