Adjust font size:

Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo met in Beijing on Wednesday with Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, vowing to further bilateral exchanges.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said Sino-Ecuadorian relations had developed smoothly and the two sides had promoted trust and cooperation on trade, culture, education and public health issues.

He stressed that both China and Ecuador were developing countries and China valued relations with Ecuador and would expand cooperation on trade, energy, tourism and culture.

Correa said Ecuador viewed China as an important strategic partner and would make joint efforts with China to boost bilateral trade.

He reaffirmed that Ecuador would adhere to the one-China policy.

Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, also met with Correa on Wednesday.

Correa arrived in Beijing on Monday for a week-long state visit. He held talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday, and several documents were signed after the talks.
