Adjust font size:

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Tuesday said that China will, as always, support the work of the General Assembly of the United Nations and its president.

Yang made the remark during his talks with visiting new President of the UN General Assembly Srgjan Kerim who is in Beijing as Yang's guest.

Kerim was elected in May as president of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly.

During the talks, Kerim briefed Yang on the work plan of the upcoming 62nd session scheduled to open in September.

He held that this session should pay key attention to such topics as climate change, anti-terrorism, development fund raising, secretariat management reform, and millennium development goals.

He reiterated that the UN General Assembly will continue to abide by the one-China principle.

Yang said China has always supported the United Nations' key role in multi-lateral mechanism and advocated for the United Nations' full play in international affairs.

He said the UN General Assembly boasts the most extensive participation of the vast majority of the UN member states, and the Chinese side will, as always, support the work of the UN General Assembly and its president.

Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on the UN reform and climate change.
