Special Representative of the Chinese Government for Darfur Liu Guijin left Khartoum Wednesday evening, concluding a five-day visit in Sudan.

During his visit, Liu held meetings with Sudanese Vice President Osman Mohammed Taha, Presidential Adviser Majzoub al-Khalifa and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs al-Wasila al-Samani.

Liu also paid a fact-finding visit to Darfur and attended in Khartoum the ceremony of signing documents of handing over a new batch of humanitarian assistance materials from the Chinese government for the Darfurian people.

Liu expressed China's willingness to play a more constructive role in Darfur and to provide more humanitarian and development help for the Darfurian people.

Liu praised the relations of friendly cooperation between China and Sudan, which have being continuously developing and deepening in recent years.

Appreciating the efforts exerted by the Sudanese government and other parties concerned to solve the Darfur problem, the Chinese official hoped that the Sudanese side would show more flexibility on the implementation of a joint peacekeeping plan between the United Nations and African Union in Darfur.

He also stressed the importance of accelerating the Darfur political process and making further improvement of the security and humanitarian situation in the region.

Liu said that he would enhance contacts with the parties concerned on the Darfur issue.

The Sudanese officials expressed appreciation to the Chinese government on appointing special representative for Darfur and the constructive role as well as the humanitarian assistance.

They believed that Liu would be a bridge of contacts between the parties concerned.

They reiterated that the Sudanese government would continue its cooperation with the UN and the AU and exert more efforts for properly resolving the Darfur issue.

Liu arrived in Sudan Saturday on his first visit in Sudan since he was appointed to the post earlier this month.
