Adjust font size:

China and Suriname agreed in Paramaribo on Tuesday that the two countries will further deepen their equal and mutually beneficial cooperation and advance bilateral relations.

The agreement came after Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee, met with President Runaldo Ronald Venetiaan of Suriname Tuesday afternoon.

Li expressed satisfaction over the growth of bilateral ties, saying China-Suriname cooperation is based on equality and has brought concrete benefits for the peoples of both countries.

Li said China is willing to further expand bilateral ties based on the principles of equality, mutual support, enhancing communication, strengthening friendship, expanding cooperation and creating common future.

China is ready to maintain the momentum of reciprocal visits of high-ranking officials, deepen win-win economic cooperation for mutual benefits and common development, broaden exchanges in areas such as science, education, culture and public health, he said.

Li also said that the two countries should continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation on international affairs.

Li appreciated the government of Suriname for its long-term adherence to the one-China policy.

President Venetiaan said that in recent years Suriname and China have become partners in development and trust-worthy friends. He reiterated the Suriname government's adherence to the one-China policy, saying that Suriname supports China's efforts to fully realize reunification of the country.

Venetiaan expressed his wish to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields with China, which in turn will help push forward the Caribbean nations' friendly relationship with China.

Venetiaan wished China success in hosting the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. He said Suriname will also contribute to the success of these events.

Li also expressed his wish that the CPC and political parties in Suriname should establish and expand exchanges on all levels, especially exchanges of high-ranking members.

He suggested that the CPC and political parties from Suriname increase exchanges among young politicians so as to add new impetus to the development of bilateral ties.

Suriname is the third leg of Li's visit to Latin America and the Caribbean region.
