China is following a road of peaceful development and adopts a national defense policy that is for the defense purpose only, Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan told Swiss Defense Minister Samuel Schmid in Beijing Monday.
Cao briefed Schmid on China's peaceful development, saying that China's modernization of its armed forces is aimed only at safeguarding national security and territorial integrity.
China's upgrading of its armed forces poses no threat to any country, said Cao.
Cao also exchanged views with Schmid on Sino-Swiss relations, noting that China is ready to work with Switzerland to push forward the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.
Schmid said Switzerland will make more efforts to further enhance exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields.
