China, Uganda Agree to Enhance Parliamentary Cooperation

China's top legislative body, National People's Congress (NPC), will further enhance exchanges and cooperation with the Ugandan parliament to promote the two countries' relations, top legislator Wu Bangguo said in Beijing Monday.

Wu made the remarks while meeting with Rebecca Kadaga Alitwala, deputy speaker of the Ugandan National Assembly.

China and Uganda have shared traditional friendship and witnessed smooth development in bilateral ties since their diplomatic relations were forged, Wu said.

"We have deepened mutual understanding, strengthened political mutual trust, carried out fruitful cooperation in sectors such as economy, culture, education and sanitation and closely coordinated on the international arena," Wu said.

To further promote such friendly and cooperative ties, which are characterized by mutual trust and mutual benefit, will serve the fundamental interests of the two countries and is beneficial for world peace and stability, he said.

Kadaga said the Ugandan government and parliament believe the relations with China are very important.

She appreciated China's support and aid, saying Uganda will learn from China's experience as a developing economy and speed up cooperation with China to stimulate the economic and social progress of the equatorial African country.

The Ugandan parliament will also enhance exchanges and cooperation with its Chinese counterpart to contribute to the development of bilateral ties, she said.

Kadaga is leading a parliamentary delegation for an official visit to China from December 4 to 11.
