The Sudanese government said on Sunday that it is ready to resume peace talks with Darfur rebels in the Nigerian capital of Abuja on Tuesday, the official SUNA news agency reported.
Presidential advisor and head of the government delegation to the talks Majzoub al-Khalifa expressed hope that the new round of talks will be final and successful to realize peace in Sudan's western region of Darfur.
He said the government is committed to all previous agreements signed with Darfur rebels and will work hard to put an end to the conflict.
"Our message to them is what the president and his two deputies have said before that nothing could equalize peace and we must come together for the sake of a united, stable and progressive Sudan," he said.
Rebels took up arms in Darfur against the government in February, 2003, accusing Khartoum of negligence. Rounds of talks under the auspices of the African Union in Abuja have so far failed to strike a peace deal.
