Top Advisor Meets Singaporean PM

Top advisor Jia Qinglin met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Beijing on Wednesday.

China and Singapore witnessed frequent exchange of high-level visits, growing trade and sound cooperation in all fields and coordination on international and regional issues, said Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

China and Singapore share broad common interests and great potential for further cooperation, Jia said, noting China will push forward cooperation with Singapore in a bid to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

On the Taiwan issue, Jia said that China appreciates that Singapore adheres to the one-China policy and against Taiwan's independence.

China hopes that Singapore will continuously support China's effort to safeguard national sovereignty, territorial integrity and reaching a peaceful reunification of the nation, he said.

Jia said the CPPCC, China's top advisory body, will enhance connections with the Singaporean parliament and all walks of life in a bid to contribute to the further development of Sino-Singaporean ties.

Lee said that Singapore and China enhanced mutual-understanding via high-level contacts and reached great progress in bilateral ties, trade and economic cooperation and exchange in cultural and other sectors.

Lee noticed that the Singaporean government will firmly stick to the one-China policy and remain opposed to Taiwan's independence.

Lee arrived in Beijing Monday afternoon. He will also visit Tianjin, which neighbors Beijing, and northeast China's Liaoning Province.
