CSN Leaders to Seek Ways to Enhance Regional Integration at Summit

Leaders of the South American Community of Nations (CSN) members will discuss ways to promote regional integration and work out an action plan for next year at the summit on Thursday and Friday.

Organizers of the summit have said the meeting will cover topics like political dialogues, infrastructure building, energy integration, economic differences and the ways to promote social fair and harmonious development.

Among them the promotion of infrastructure construction will be a focus.

Reports said the Brazilian government has prepared an investment list for the summit which encloses about 30 projects and covers the building of highways, railroads, aviation, navigation, harbors, bridges and gas pipelines.

Brazilian enterprises have showed interest in the list, and Brazil's State Development Bank is ready to fund part of the projects.

Luis Felipe de Macedo Soares, president of the summit's organizing group, also said the talks are aimed at stepping up infrastructure construction of the region and economic integration.

He added the CSN members will try to offer more convenience for regional transportation and discuss practical ways to boost trade among South American nations at the summit.

The leaders will also mull over an agreement of common border defense and security policies, and the establishment of permanent mechanism of political consultation.

The CSN was formed on Dec. 8 2004 in the Peruvian city of Cuzco. It groups Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Guyana, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Surinam, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The CSN's establishment was considered as an important step toward South American integration.
