China Pledges Further Cooperation with Belarus

A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) pledges in Minsk Monday to work with Belarus to boost bilateral relations in a long-term and stable manner.

China values its ties with Belarus, and the two countries have cherished a traditional relationship that has witnessed a "sound growth" since the two forged diplomatic ties 13 years ago, said Wu Guanzheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Wu, also secretary of the Central Commission for Disciplinary Inspection of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with Viktor Sheyman, director of the Presidential Office of Belarus.

Noting bilateral political trust has increasingly been reinforced and cooperation continuously expanded in various fields, he stated that the two sides have also understood, supported and cooperated closely with each other on international affairs.

Wu said he highly appreciating Belarus' firm support to China on the Taiwan issue.

Sheyman said bilateral cooperation in all fields has scored fruitful progress and he thanked China for its firm support to Belarus on international issues.

Speaking highly of China's economic and social achievements, he said Wu's ongoing visit would serve to push the mutually beneficial cooperation to a new high.

He also reiterated Belarus' adherence to the one-China policy.

After the meeting, the two leaders also attended a signing ceremony on an agreement of economic and technological cooperation between the two countries.

Wu flew into Belarus Sunday, the last leg of his four-nation goodwill visit to Europe, which has also taken him to Malta, Sweden and Finland, before flying back to Beijing on September 28.

Before concluding his Finnish tour and leaving for Belarus, Wu visited the Finnish city of Rovaniemi and met with Hannele Pokka, governor of Lapland Province.
