State Councilor Meets Indian Foreign Secretary

State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran in Beijing Wednesday.

Saran was here for the ongoing 15th round of talks of the joint Sino-Indian working group on the boundary question.

Tang said China and India, two important developing countries in the world, will witness the 55th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties this year. Premier Wen Jiabao is scheduled to visit India in April.

The two countries should seize the opportunity to assure the success of Wen's upcoming visit in order to push forward the Sino-Indian constructive partnership of cooperation with practical actions, Tang said, noting that it will also contribute more to peace, stability and prosperity in Asia and the world.

Tang praised the efforts made by the joint working group. The working group aims to safeguard peace across the boundary, he said, believing that the two countries, proceeding from the overall situation and persist in equal consultation with mutual understanding and accommodation, would find a fair, reasonable and acceptable solution to solve the boundary question.

Saran said the Indian government and people eagerly await Premier Wen's visit. He believed that his visit will be fruitful and will further promote the bilateral ties between the two countries.

The three-day talks of the Sino-Indian joint working group on the boundary question are scheduled to end Thursday, according to sources with the Foreign Ministry.
