The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Tung Chee Hwa Tuesday issued a statement to extend his warm congratulations to Hong Kong's newly elected deputies to the 10th National People's Congress.
Tung issued the statement immediately after the conclusion of the election of deputies of the Hong Kong SAR to the 10th National People's Congress.
Tung said in the statement that the election of deputies of the Hong Kong SAR to the 10th National People's Congress has successfully concluded. A total of 36 deputies have been elected in accordance with the principle of openness, fairness and impartiality, he added.
"I extend my warmest congratulations to the elected deputies. I believe that they will join hands with people of our nation to contribute to the prosperous development of our motherland," the chief executive said.
Tung said that they will represent Hong Kong residents to join the top legislative body of the country and participate in the management of state affairs.
