Deng Zhonghua, former president of a listed company in central China's Hunan province, has been removed as a deputy of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) to allow prosecutions against him for alleged bribery.

The standing committee of the Hunan provincial people's congress passed the resolution on Thursday.

Deng, 49, has been accused of taking and offering huge bribes when he was the president of Hunan Chendian International Development Share-holding Limited Company, according to the committee.

He resigned from the company on Dec. 12 after being investigated by local anti-corruption authorities, according to media reports.

The former vice president of the Hunan company, Liu Xiaowen, was arrested on Nov. 21 and charged with economic crimes.

Deng became the president of Hunan Chendian International Development Share-holding Limited Company in March 2004.
