China will work with other member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to fight terrorism, the country's public security chief said on Friday.

"China will as always support the SCO anti-terror agency and work with member countries to maintain the peace and stability of the region," State Councilor and Public Security Minister Zhou Yongkang said in a meeting with anti-terror officials from SCO member countries.

The officials gathered on Friday in Beijing to attend the eighth meeting of the SCO regional anti-terror agency council.

The "three evil forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism remained the major threat to the regional security and stability, Zhou said.

"The SCO has done a good job in coordinating anti-terror drives," Zhou said.

But the SCO member states needed to intensify cooperation, carry out the consensus agreed by the SCO heads of state at the June summit and improve anti-terror capabilities, he said.

A total of 12 anti-terror related legal documents were signed at the end of the one-day meeting.

Participants reviewed the work of the past three years and adopted the 2007 work plan of the SCO regional anti-terror agency.

The SCO, established in 2001 in the Chinese city of Shanghai, groups China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Its regional anti-terror agency came into operation in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent in 2004.
