The proposal made by Chinese President Hu Jintao at the sixth summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was hailed Thursday in Pakistan and Mongolia, two of the four observers of the regional group.

 

Pakistan appreciates the constructive ideas China put forward on Thursday's SCO summit, Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam told Xinhua News Agency in Islamabad.

 

Hu's proposal will help enhance cooperation among the SCO members and observers, she said. Pakistan has been able to benefit from the very constructive steps so far the SCO has taken, she added.

 

President Hu proposed forming a convention for lasting good neighborhood relations and cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

 

In Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia, General Secretary of Mongolia-China Friendship Association M. Chimedtseye said Hu's proposal is in conformity with the development trend of the world and is conducive to the realization of the SCO goal of common development.

 

He said the SCO has become a platform for regional cooperation and it will grow into a major force for maintaining peace and promoting development in the region.

 

Mongolian scholars have been closely watching the one-day SCO summit meeting and they hope the SCO's development will offer more chances for Mongolia's development, Chimedtseye said.

 

Meanwhile, scholars in Russia and Romania expressed their views over the SCO and its sixth summit.

 

In Moscow, Mikhail Titarenko, chief of the Far Eastern Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Science, said this year's summit of the regional organization has positive implications for the healthy development and stabilization of the situation in Central Asia.

 

In Bucharest, capital of Romania, Simona Haiduc, director of the International Department of the Curentul newspaper, described the summit as "very important."
