Two Chinese films, Peacock and The Wayward Cloud, will compete for the Golden and Silver Bear Awards at the 55th Berlin International Films Festival.
Twenty-one films were officially selected for the competition in Berlin, Germany, where 16 will make world premieres and five will be feature debuts, including Peacock directed by Gu Changwei.
Gu, one of China's most well-known cinematographers, was the cameraman for the Golden Bear winner Red Sorghum in 1988.
Peacock portrays the life of a family in the 1970s and 1980s in a small town in central China's Henan Province.
It depicts the stories of three young people, whose experiences reflect the life of many others during that time.
The Wayward Cloud is directed by Taiwan director Tsai Ming-liang, whose film The River also participated in the competition for the Golden Bear in 1997.
The film festival will kick off Feb. 10 and run through Feb. 20.
