According to Hong Kong media, a survey related to Hong Kong women's sex life involving 250 interviewees reveals that most Hong Kong women are open-minded in terms of sex but most of them regard "one night stand" unacceptable.
Furthermore, they tend to be silent and tolerant towards sexual assaults. The survey also finds that as much as 45 percent of the women surveyed admitted that they have suffered from sexual harassment (including body contact by men in the public).
However, over 90 percent of sexual harassment victims did not report their cases (including sexual assaults and rapes) to the police and 70 percent of them chose to tell a third party about the case mainly because of their fear or worry that nobody would believe what they said.
Among 250 women interviewed, 40 percent are aged between 21 and 30 and 40 percent are cohabiting or married. Most of those surveyed believe that loyalty is more important than virginity in love. 70 percent reject "one night stand" while 80 percent will not consider having more than one sex partner.
The survey by questionnaires was conducted by the Sociology Department of Hong Kong University and the Association for the Advancement of Feminism. They delivered 2,500 questionnaires to women in universities and community centers but only 10 percent questionnaires were returned.
According to the parties responsible for the survey, low return rate of questionnaires may have resulted from the length of the questionnaires and sensitivity of this topic. Based on the questionnaires returned, 84 percent of the interviewed consider that loyalty is more important in love, much higher than those who believe that virginity is more significant (50 percent).
