Lohani has been cooperating with Chinese government, particularly the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA), since the 1980s. Working closely with SEPA officials, he has made many significant contributions to the system and administration of environmental protection in China. He helped to improve the framework and effectiveness of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) in the implementation stages. In 2006, Lohani played a key role in the ADB’s decision to provide technical assistance to SEPA to set up regional environmental supervision centers.
