The virus is viable and prevalent all the year around. However an outbreak of HPAI is more likely to occur in winter or spring as the virus is more robust at lower temperatures than at higher ones. Different species of birds are susceptible to infection at all ages. HPAI exhibits sudden morbidity, rapid transmission and mortality levels reaching 100%.
