Opened in 1988, the library has the largest collection of rare old books about traditional Chinese medicine in China. In total, there are 60,000 old books, 20,000 rare medical books and 230 Chinese and foreign journals.
A computer indexing system documents books on the study of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion and acupuncture anesthesia. It is the only data base in China on acupuncture and moxibustion, and acupuncture anesthesia in both Chinese and English. A video reference room has materials introducing famous doctors in Shanghai and Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces.
