Chinese Minister of Commerce Lu Fuyuan said here Thursday that China will embrace a new high in foreign direct investment and trade after the World Health Organization removed Beijing from its list of SARS-infected areas and lifted its travel advisory against the city.
Lu spoke during a meeting with visiting chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Nokia Corporation of Finland Jorma Ollila.
China would grow into one of the largest telecommunications market in the coming 20 years, Lu said, noting the country would enhance cooperation with Nokia in the field.
China was building a united, open, competitive and orderly modern market mechanism, Lu said.
As the top Chinese agency in charge of domestic and foreign trade and international economic cooperation, the Ministry of Commerce would listen to foreign business criticism and suggestionand help solve problems.
Ollila congratulated Beijing on its removal from the World Health Organization (WHO)SARS infected area list and the lifting of the travel advisory against the city.
He said the negative influence caused by SARS would be eliminated soon and he was confident that the Chinese economy would keep growing.
Nokia would invest more in China and enhance R&D in the country,Ollila said.
