Swimming Pools to Reopen in Beijing As SARS Fears Ease
Swimming pools in Beijing which meet municipal hygiene standards will reopen along with waning severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) impact, Beijing Morning News reported Wednesday.

As the city reported no new SARS cases over the past week, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports has announced that local swimming pools will be reopened gradually.

Recently, 130 out of 148 stadiums in Beijing have been given the go-ahead from health inspection groups to resume operations as they have met the city's disease prevention standards.

However, stadiums and swimming pools will still have to strictly implement SARS prevention measures and only those licensed by the health authorities can resume operations.

Every swimming pool must have a temperature-checking instrument at the entrance, apart from other disinfection measures, according the newspaper.

The circulation of water and fresh air within swimming pools must be strengthened, officials said.
